Transforming Information Literacy: The world of research is constantly shifting and evolving around us, and the information literacy skills we teach must follow suit. Where is information literacy going? How are our skills evolving? How are we assessing our programs and improving what we teach? How are we partnering with others to develop curricula and learning objectives?
FEATURED SPEAKER: Dr. Sharon Weiner
Who Teaches Information Literacy in Colleges?
We know about librarians' involvement in teaching information literacy in academic institutions. But there are indications that the disciplinary faculty are teaching information literacy, without collaboration with librarians. Dr. Weiner will present the findings of her Spring 2011 study of Purdue faculty. This study revealed who the teaching faculty report are teaching information literacy competencies. This study can easily be replicated at other academic institutions and can give college administrators and accreditation agencies a fuller, campus-wide picture of what is happening with information literacy.
CALL FOR PROPOSALS
We are seeking presenters to lead interesting and interactive discussions about information literacy or library instruction. In particular, we welcome breakout sessions and panels related to this year's theme of Transforming Information Literacy. To offer multiple perspectives, we encourage all types of libraries, schools and other organizations to submit proposals. Recommendations for presenters are also welcome.
Submitters may propose one or more sessions for one or more of the three Summit locations. Breakout sessions and panels will be 50 minutes long and should include audience interaction or discussion. Hands-on lessons and demonstrations (and/or practical takeaways) are encouraged. Sessions typically have 20-40 participants.
